    How to order

    1. Work out the volume. Use the calculator above or the cubic yard calculator. Measure the actual forms, not the plan.
    2. Add extra. Running short mid-pour is the expensive mistake. The calculator adds 10% by default.
    3. Call two or three local suppliers. Ask the questions below and get the total in writing.
    4. Book the date and have the site, forms, base and crew ready before the truck arrives.

    Questions to ask the supplier

    • What is the price per yard for the mix I need, and what strength (PSI) is it?
    • Is delivery included? Is there a fuel or environmental charge?
    • What is your minimum order, and what is the short-load fee below it?
    • How much unloading time is included, and what do you charge for extra time?
    • Are there charges for Saturday delivery, or for hot or cold weather additives?
    • Can the truck reach the pour, or do I need a pump or a buggy?

Small jobs: bags may be cheaper

At The Home Depot’s $5.93–$6.47 per 80 lb bag, one yard in bags costs about $267–$291. That’s more than a yard of ready-mix, but short-load and delivery fees can reverse it on a one or two yard job. See bagged concrete prices.
