Cost by area

From Bob Vila [1]:

AreaResurfacing at $3–$9
500 sq ft$1,500–$4,500
1,000 sq ft$3,000–$9,000
2,000 sq ft$6,000–$18,000

Resurface or replace?

For a 640 sq ft two-car driveway:

CostBasis
Resurface$1,920–$5,760$3–$9 per sq ft [1]
Remove old concrete$1,280–$3,840$2–$6 per sq ft (Fixr) [3]
New plain driveway$6,140–$7,540$9.59–$11.78 per sq ft (Homewyse) [4]
Replace (remove + new)$7,420–$11,380

Resurfacing makes sense when the slab underneath is sound and the problem is the surface: scaling, stains, small cracks or a dated look. If sections have sunk, lifted or broken, an overlay will follow the damage, and replacement is the real comparison.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to resurface a concrete driveway?

At Bob Vila's $3–$9 per sq ft, a 640 sq ft driveway costs $1,920–$5,760 to resurface. Angi's range is $3–$15 per sq ft, with basic overlays at $3–$5.

Is resurfacing cheaper than replacing concrete?

Usually, by a wide margin. For 640 sq ft, replacement means removal at $2–$6 per sq ft (Fixr) plus a new driveway at $9.59–$11.78 (Homewyse): about $7,420–$11,380, against $1,920–$5,760 to resurface.

When is resurfacing not enough?

An overlay covers the surface. It doesn't fix a slab that has heaved, sunk or broken apart underneath. Those need repair or replacement.
