Yield and bags per yard
From Quikrete’s Concrete Mix data sheet [4]:
| Bag | Yield | Bags per cubic yard |
|---|---|---|
| 40 lb | 0.30 cu ft | 90 |
| 60 lb | 0.45 cu ft | 60 |
| 80 lb | 0.60 cu ft | 45 |
Per cubic foot of concrete, 80 lb bags at $5.93–$6.47 cost $9.88–$10.78. The Lowe’s 60 lb bag at $4.58 works out to $10.18 per cubic foot.
Bags or ready-mix?
| One cubic yard | |
|---|---|
| 45 × 80 lb bags at $5.93–$6.47 | $267–$291 |
| Ready-mix at $160–$195 (Concrete Network) [5] | $160–$195 plus fees |
Ready-mix is cheaper per yard, but small orders carry extra charges. Fixr puts short-load delivery at $15–$17 per cubic yard for orders under 10 yards [6], and suppliers set their own minimums and delivery fees.
In practice: bags suit post holes, small pads and repairs. For a pour of a few yards, get a ready-mix quote with all fees and compare. Also count the labor: 45 bags of 80 lb is 1.8 tons to lift and mix by hand.

The Home Depot’s lower price starts at 42 bags. That’s 25.2 cubic feet, or 0.93 cubic yards: enough for about 75 sq ft at 4 inches thick, such as an 8 × 9 ft pad, before waste.
